3 Things About Your Website That Turns Visitors Off

3 Things About Your Website That Turns Visitors Off

A lot of businesses think that by having a website their customer base will increase and their sales will skyrocket. In truth, if your website doesn’t appeal to visitors, it’s not going to be able to successfully do its job. There are three things about your website that can turn visitors off and keep it from being successful.

It’s Not Mobile-Friendly
Many people choose to do a lot of their online browsing on their cell phones or tablets, especially if they are on the go a lot. Websites that are not optimized for mobile phones tend to be too difficult for users to navigate. The text can be too small and the user needs to constantly move the page around in order to use it. As a result, visitors tend to avoid those sites and the businesses are losing access to those customers. A website that isn’t mobile friendly can be damaging to its ability to be searched, as Google has begun penalizing non-mobile-friendly sites as of May 2016. As a result, those sites are falling to lower rankings in search results.

It’s Too Slow
Too many people live in the now and a lot of consumers can be quite impatient. If your site is slow to load or navigate, many users will choose to go elsewhere rather than wait. A slow website can be frustrating to use and can drain a mobile user’s precious data. If your site is slow through multiple platforms and devices, then it might be an aspect of its coding. If your website is visually busy, then that might be slowing down its load time and turning your customers away. Big pictures and videos, for example, often require a lot more energy and time to load than text does.

It’s Overloaded with Pop-ups and Auto-play Media

Many businesses chose to add to their websites with advertisements from business partners and their own company. Some may even be ads from companies that are paying you to use some space on your site. Whatever the case, a lot of these additional ads are often pop-ups or run on auto-play. They appear on the screen as soon as a visitor arrives and can be incredibly distracting. They can be obnoxious and possibly unrelated to whatever the user is looking for on your site.
